  3. <hi style=afpcap>The thin dark line on the underfuselage of this KC-135, forward of the wing, is one of two parallel lines known in jargon as "the captain's bars" and used to guide receiver aircraft in assuming position to take on fuel. The longer, light-colored line beneath the Stratotanker is a formation light, or "slime" light, used during night refuelings for the same purpose. This ship belongs to the 146th Air Refueling Squadron, 112th Air Refueling Group, Pennsylvania Air National Guard, equipped with KC-135Es. The outfit traces its heritage to a squadron which operated Bell P-39 Airacobras in 1942.</hi>
